L.A.C.E.S. Temporary Program Assistant

Position Summary

L.A.C.E.S. Refugee Program Assistant will support the running of L.A.C.E.S. Refugee Programs during the remainder of our Spring Season (April – May 2022). This position is a short-term contract opportunity for someone with superb communication and logistic skills to gain experience in facilitating and managing youth sports programs. You will be given opportunities to take on unique responsibilities, relationship-building, and connecting with the refugee population.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Relationship building & networking
    • Maintain on-going relationships with the refugee community and community-based partners.
  • Program Management
    • Take charge of participant registration
    • Manage volunteer and coach paperwork and filing
    • Coordinate with program volunteers and coaches to ensure the success of each event
  • Communication
    • Capture/edit photographs and videos clips of our beneficiaries when possible
    • Assist in the development of marketing materials

Details

  • Total Time Commitment: 100 hours max for a period of 6 weeks.
  • Flexible hours
    • Flexible schedule during week
    • Weekend-work potentially required
  • Start April, 1st 2022 – End May, 15th 2022
    • Start and end dates are flexible
  • Hybrid work,
    • Virtual meetings with L.A.C.E.S. staff
    • In-person attendance of events week of April 9th and registration of youth effort

L.A.C.E.S. Internship Program

Throughout the year L.A.C.E.S. offers internships in the Fall, Spring, and Summer. Our interns help with our refugee program, communications, and general operations. L.A.C.E.S. interns are an essential part of the organization. If you are interested we would love to have you!

L.A.C.E.S. provides 3-4 month internships throughout the year. If interested in getting experience working with a growing non-profit email your resume to jobs@laces.org and we will notify you when positions become available.

Year round positions:

Refugee Youth Sports Program Internship

Position Summary:

This individual will lead the implementation of L.A.C.E.S. summer sports programs for refugee youth in the Greater Washington D.C. area. You will be given opportunities to take on unique responsibilities, relationship-building, program management and networking with various organizations and refugee populations in the D.C. metro area.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Relationship building & networking
    • Maintain on-going relationships with the refugee community and community-based partners in the Washington D.C. metro area to help identify beneficiaries
    • Promote sports programming among L.A.C.E.S. network and areas of geographic influence
    • Represent L.A.C.E.S. to local sport leagues
  • Research & Fundraising
    • Identify funding opportunities within the scope of L.A.C.E.S. work
    • Research potential partners such as churches, other NGO’s, foundations or businesses that would be interested in supporting L.A.C.E.S.
    • Manage all social media around this program
  • Program Management
    • Organize equipment, coaches and youth to participate in sports leagues
    • Responsible for all administrative and legal documents completed by beneficiaries, coaches and volunteers
    • Do routine monitoring of program
    • Implement sport programming directly with beneficiaries when necessary
    • Any other tasks requested by the Program Manager

Qualifications

  • Rising undergraduate seniors, recent graduate and master’s candidates in international relations, social work or social service-related field; are welcome to apply.
  • A soccer player is preferred
  • Excellent English writing abilities
  • Passion for community development, youth and refugees
  • Enthusiastic about creating, designing and implementing new program idea’s

Communications Internship

Position Summary:

L.A.C.E.S.  is seeking a proactive Communications Intern to assist the organization in reaching the next level of impact. This position will offer the right candidate a diverse and exciting communications role in a growing organization. This is an exceptional learning opportunity for someone with superb oral and written communication skills to gain experience in creating and managing their own projects.  

Specific Responsibilities

  • Write blog posts, social media posts and material for our digital bi-monthly newsletter
  • Help in implementing website edits
  • Capture/edit photographs and videos clips of our beneficiaries when needed
  • Assist in the development of marketing materials

Experience and Qualifications

  • Currently studying marketing, communications, journalism, PR, or another related field.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of social media, Microsoft Office Software, Canva and Adobe Design Software.
  • Able to step into an ongoing communications process and continue to build upon it.
