Virtual Volunteer Testimonials

One year ago, with the challenges of the global pandemic changing the way we all live, we were pushed to be more creative in how we were running our programming here at L.A.C.E.S. We knew that it was important to think of ways to keep providing opportunities for L.A.C.E.S. youth to have access to supportive mentors while giving them fun ways to stay active and connect with others. So we came up with fun and encouraging virtual programs for our youth. Our volunteers were a big part of our success in virtual programming and as we are getting ready for our Spring virtual programs we thought it would be fun to hear from some of our coaches about what it’s like to volunteer virtually with L.A.C.E.S.

Coach Holly

“The ‘Let’s Keep Moving Campaign’ was the perfect opportunity to help the community in this unprecedented time and share my knowledge about methods of remaining fit while being at home. I wanted to inspire the players to stay fit and healthy despite being confined inside. Therefore, I brainstormed daily workout circuits that are challenging and rewarding. After adapting to everything becoming virtual, this campaign inspired me to share my passion for working out through a different platform and show the players that staying fit is possible no matter the circumstances.”

Coach Sammy

“Volunteering as a virtual coach with L.A.C.E.S was a challenging and rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of youth in my community during the pandemic and quarantine. One of my favorite aspects of volunteering was definitely having the freedom to be creative and use all sorts of virtual platforms to create fun and engaging ways to make the most of all of our situations with just a soccer ball and a willingness to have fun! It was also inspiring to be able to see the smiles on all the kids/ faces even though we couldn’t interact in-person!”

Coach Sarah

“One of the biggest impacts I had while volunteering as a virtual coach with L.A.C.E.S. was the fact I was able to connect with students so quickly. When I first started volunteering I looked through the lens of how the youth were being impacted, but looking back now I realize how much they actually taught and coached me. The connections I made with these youth over just a few weeks were incredible, and I still can’t begin to fathom the change they made in my life in such a short period of time.”
