Hello everyone! My name is Jade Seguchi and I had the pleasure of serving as the Spring 2022 Communications Intern at L.A.C.E.S.
My L.A.C.E.S. Beginning
I joined L.A.C.E.S. at the beginning of my last semester as an undergraduate at the University of Rochester. I was looking to join an organization whose mission I resonated with and where I could develop my skills while making a difference, so when I came across L.A.C.E.S., I knew I wanted to be part of the team. I was fortunate to be granted such an opportunity and help the organization to impact the lives of children across the world.
My L.A.C.E.S. Journey
As I was able to put my education into practice, I also gained an understanding of the nonprofit sector, how to represent the L.A.C.E.S. voice, and became proficient in different platforms and systems, like MailChimp and WordPress. I am grateful for the ongoing learning experience it has been. As I organized, created, and scheduled social media posts, it was rewarding to see my contributions being successful in raising awareness about L.A.C.E.S.’ work and in helping to raise funds.
Being part of the creation and organization of the Feeding The Future campaign has been an incredible opportunity, which gave me a deeper look into a crucial part of the L.A.C.E.S. program and its impact on the children. I was thrilled to tell the stories of the coaches and the youth about their fond memories and journeys. It was gratifying to represent L.A.C.E.S., be part of an amazing team, and contribute to the organization’s mission.
What this experience meant to me
This internship has taught me incredible skills that have made a difference in my professional career, giving me an insight into what it is like working in a nonprofit organization. I hope to build a career following such a path, with a focus on the marketing area. I am incredibly thankful for Leah and Seren, who were always welcoming to new ideas and appreciative of my work. It has been my pleasure to work alongside them and have this opportunity at L.A.C.E.S.
