What does a sports organization do when COVID-19 hits?
Food, Mentorship and a Radio Ad
This spring when COVID-19 started impacting people around the globe, L.A.C.E.S. sports programs came to a screeching halt.
Well, not all of it!
COVID -19 Relief Fund
We asked for your support in March and your immediate response made it possible for us to provide additional meals, community education, and personal protective equipment (PPE) to the youth and coaches in our program.
Although practices and games were paused, L.A.C.E.S. work continued because we know it’s more than a game- it’s empowerment, mentorship, leadership, and hope.
Social Media Campaign
A month long social media campaign was launched to encourage people around the globe to stay active. Individuals and families submitted videos sharing how they kept moving while at home. This campaign reached over 18,500 people in 70 different countries. Watch the Video to see some of the places it went.
COVID-19 Awareness – Radio Ad
Knowing that we can still do more, we asked our youth how we can help them fight COVID-19. Our youth reflected on their circumstances and came back with a brilliant idea. They told us they wanted to record a radio jingle to help educate Liberian’s on how to protect the community from COVID-19.“It will keep us all safe”, they said. They are the future leaders of Liberia and after years of L.A.C.E.S. leadership training, they are asking us to help them put their leadership skills into action.
So a Radio jingle was created using the voice of L.A.C.E.S. youth and it is being played daily on-air in Liberia for the 70,000 people who tune in each day. It reminds people of how to protect themselves and their community from COVID-19. Watch the video to hear the jingle.
