L.A.C.E.S. receives the Courageous use of Sport Award

October 2015, London-  Beyond Sport recognized organizations that are showing great bravery in the face of adversity using sport for social change across the world. Beyond Sport is a global organization that promotes, develops and supports the use of sport to create positive social change. 39 projects were shortlisted for the seventh annual beyond awards representing over 60 countries.

The Former UK Prime Minister David Cameron set the tone for the proceedings with a video message to the audience stating “Day after day it’s the stars on the pitch who make the headlines but tonight it is right to stop and pay tribute to you, the stars beyond the field of play, the people who show that by going beyond sport we can use the games we love to tackle some of the greatest social challenges in our world today.”

The night kicked off with celebrating organizations for their most impact use of sport for social change as the winners of Beyond Sport Awards 2015 , supported by Comic Relief, were reveled in London.

The Courageous use of Sport Award, powered by Jaguar Land Rover was presented by Rugby World Cup Winner Jason Robinson to Seren Fryatt, the Executive Director of L.A.C.E.S.,that used sport to educate and raise awareness among at-risk youth during the Ebola crisis in Liberia. Seren shared during her acceptance speech how our coaches and staff risked their lives every day for months as they  knocked on over 15,000 doors to spread awareness on how to prevent Ebola.

This award was given in honor of the courage our coaches and staff showed while fighting Ebola and was dedicated to the over 4,000 people in Liberia who lost their lives to the deadly virus. Follow the link to watch Beyond Sport Award 2015 in London.
